Fossil Fuels Collection

Item # Item Description Price
KER100
Fossil (Carbon) Fuels Collection - There are 3 major forms of fossil fuels: coal, oil and natural gas. All were formed hundreds of millions of years ago during the Carboniferous Period of the Paleozoic Era from about 360 to 286 million years ago.
The term Carboniferous gets its name from carbon, the basic element in coal and other fossil fuels. At the time these fuels were formed, the land was covered with swamps filled with huge trees, ferns and other large leafy plants.
The fossil fuels included in this collection are the result of solar energy being captured by plants through the process of photosynthesis.
The collection includes: carbonaceous lace fern, oil shale, tar sand, peat, gilsonite and 4 types of coal: lignite, jet, bituminous and anthracite.
$20.00
