Item # Item Description Price
KER100
Fossil (Carbon) Fuels Collection - There are 3 major forms of fossil fuels: coal, oil and natural gas. All were formed hundreds of millions of years ago during the Carboniferous Period of the Paleozoic Era from about 360 to 286 million years ago.
The term Carboniferous gets its name from carbon, the basic element in coal and other fossil fuels. At the time these fuels were formed, the land was covered with swamps filled with huge trees, ferns and other large leafy plants.
The fossil fuels included in this collection are the result of solar energy being captured by plants through the process of photosynthesis.
The collection includes: crude oil, oil shale, tar sand, peat, gilsonite and 4 types of coal: lignite, jet, bituminous and anthracite.
$16.95

KER100p
Fossil (Carbon) Fuels Collection with Poster - This collection is the same as the KER100 above but includes a full color poster: Coal - which shows how coal is formed, mined, transported and used. For more details about this poster, visit our Poster page . $19.95

Item # Item Description Price
1350-000
Unusual Physical Properties of Rocks - This collection offers an exciting look at some of the most peculiar physical properties exhibited by minerals. Properties illustrated include double refraction, magnetism, taste, fluorescence, thermal expansion and conductivity. The 15 specimens in this collection are approximately 1.5" x 1.5" in size. $26.95

1500-000
Cleavage Collection - Cleavage is the tendency of minerals to break along preferred directions. Some minerals tend to have one direction of cleavage: basal; others two directions: prismatic; still others have three directions: cubic or rhombohedral. Cleavage in four directions is octahedral and in six directions is dodecahedreal. This kit demonstrates 5 of these types. $12.95

1512-000
Fracture Collection - Fracture represents a mineral break other than along a cleavage or parting plane. Breaks may occur in any direction but are usually around some imperfection in the mineral. Most minerals show an uneven fracture. A few have conchoidal fractures. Native elements like copper show a hackly fracture. This kit demonstrates 5 of these types. $12.95
